Strengthening Security Through Community Dialogue: 41st Jukwaa la Usalama Forum Held in Siaya
Siaya County was honored to host the 41st Jukwaa la Usalama Forum, a grassroots platform that brings together citizens, leaders, and security agencies to openly engage on issues of crime prevention and service delivery. The forum was presided over by Interior Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, and hosted by Governor James Orengo.
The discussions focused on some of the pressing security and social challenges facing the county, including:
- Smuggling and drug trafficking across Lake Victoria.
- Illicit alcohol production and unregulated mining activities, particularly in Bondo, Rarieda, and Gem.
- Rising cases of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and defilement.
- Stock theft and incidences of hooliganism that threaten community safety.
A Collective Commitment to Safety and Service Delivery
Governor Orengo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with the National Government, local leaders, boda boda operators, students, and security agencies to enhance safety and service delivery across Siaya.
He emphasized that lasting solutions to security challenges can only be achieved through collaboration, community dialogue, and shared responsibility.
Looking Ahead
The Jukwaa la Usalama Forum continues to serve as a vital space for honest conversation and joint problem-solving, bridging the gap between citizens and institutions. With strengthened partnerships, Siaya is laying the foundation for a safer, more secure, and more prosperous county.
