Professor Teresa Mwoma is a distinguished Kenyan academic specializing in Early Childhood Studies. She serves as an Associate Professor at Kenyatta University’s Department of Early Childhood and Special Needs Education, where she has made significant contributions to research and teaching in her field.
Her scholarly work encompasses various aspects of early childhood development, including teacher training, curriculum development, and children’s numeracy and literacy skills. Her research has been widely recognized, with numerous publications and citations in academic circles. Professor Mwoma serves as the National Coordinator for the Early Childhood Development Network for Kenya (ECDNeK), where she leads initiatives aimed at enhancing early childhood care and development.
Her work with ECDNeK involves policy advocacy, capacity building, and the development of programs that support young children’s growth and development. Beyond her academic and coordination role, Professor Mwoma holds several leadership positions that underscore her commitment to advancing education in Africa.
She is the Executive Director of the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE), making her the first African woman to lead the council’s secretariat. In this capacity, she plays a pivotal role in promoting accessible and quality distance education across the continent. Professor Mwoma’s extensive experience and leadership in both academic and policy spheres make her a prominent figure in the field of early childhood in Kenya and beyond.
